First introduced in 1960 as Gibson's inaugural square-shoulder acoustic, the iconic Hummingbird™ has earned its place as one of the world's most celebrated acoustic guitars. Favoured by generations of musicians across a wide range of musical styles, it remains a cornerstone of the Gibson acoustic lineup. The Hummingbird Standard Rosewood EC builds on that legacy with rosewood back and sides, a convenient cutaway for improved upper-fret access, and the Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs HiFi DNA™ pickup system, delivering amplified acoustic tone that faithfully reflects the instrument's natural voice and the subtleties of every performance.
Featuring a Sitka spruce top paired with a rosewood body, the Hummingbird Standard Rosewood EC offers enhanced bass response and added harmonic richness. Traditional scalloped X-bracing provides strength and resonance, while multi-ply binding accents the classic square-shoulder body design. This versatile instrument delivers the balanced tone and projection players expect from a Hummingbird. A gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish highlights the beauty of the darker tonewoods while preserving the model's instantly recognizable silhouette.
The addition of a cutaway opens up easier access to the upper register, making the Hummingbird Standard Rosewood EC especially appealing for players who incorporate lead work into their music. Its mahogany neck features Gibson's comfortable SlimTaper™ profile and is joined to the body with a compound dovetail neck joint secured with hot hide glue. The bound rosewood fretboard carries a 12-inch radius, 20 standard frets, and elegant mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays. Premium appointments include a rosewood belly-up bridge fitted with a TUSQ® saddle and bridge pins, a TUSQ nut, and gold Grover® Rotomatic® tuners for reliable tuning stability. The distinctive tortoiseshell-style pickguard showcases the renowned Hummingbird artwork, while the headstock is adorned with the Gibson logo and crown in mother-of-pearl.
The Hummingbird Standard Rosewood EC is equipped with Gibson's exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA pickup system, a newly developed active design that employs two lightweight sensors mounted to the internal bridge plate. Each sensor is paired with its own optimized preamp to produce a rich, natural amplified acoustic sound that preserves the instrument's individual character without affecting its unplugged performance. Volume and tone controls inside the soundhole allow for easy adjustments while remaining virtually hidden from view.
Combining the warm, complex tonal qualities of rosewood with the added versatility of a cutaway design, the Hummingbird Standard Rosewood EC is equally prepared for studio sessions and live performance. A hardshell case is included.
