Classic MPC beat-making, but built for wherever inspiration hits. The Akai MPC Sample is a compact, battery-powered sampler that lets you record, chop and flip sounds into full beats without touching a computer.
The Akai MPC Sample brings the legendary MPC workflow into a smaller, grab-and-go format designed for modern producers. With velocity-sensitive pads, built-in sampling tools and a fast, intuitive workflow, it’s made for turning random sounds into finished grooves in minutes.
The legendary MPC workflow
For decades, MPC samplers have been at the centre of beat-making, letting producers sample sounds, assign them to pads and build rhythms by playing them live.
The MPC Sample keeps that core idea intact — record a sound, chop it up, trigger it from the pads and start building grooves immediately. It’s simple, hands-on and incredibly addictive.
Record, chop and flip sounds instantly
Sampling is the heart of the MPC Sample. You can record audio directly using the built-in microphone, external inputs or import samples via USB-C or microSD, then slice and rearrange them into something completely new.
Dedicated controls for chopping, muting and looping make the process quick and musical, so you spend less time navigating menus and more time making beats.
Portable beat-making anywhere
Unlike larger MPC workstations, the MPC Sample is designed to travel. It features a rechargeable battery, built-in speaker and compact design, making it easy to sketch ideas wherever inspiration strikes.
Throw it in a backpack and start building beats on the couch, in the studio, on a train or backstage before a gig.
Sequencing and creative effects
Once your samples are loaded, the MPC Sample’s sequencer lets you build full patterns and arrangements. Real-time time-stretching, pitch control and performance effects help you shape sounds and add movement to your beats without needing external gear.
From chopped drum breaks to melodic loops and vocal flips, the workflow is built for experimentation.
Connectivity and storage
Despite its portable size, the MPC Sample includes the connections you need to integrate with your setup:
Stereo audio input and output
MIDI input and output
USB-C connectivity
MicroSD storage
Headphone output
It works just as well as a standalone beat machine as it does alongside other hardware or a DAW.

Absolutely love the Akai MPC Sample!!
I have been keen to purchase an MPC for sometime. As someone who used to DJ but had never made beats, I had held off due to the cost. (Worried I wouldn't have time to dedicate to learning, or if I would ever make anything worthwhile after spending the money) The low price and simplicity of the Sample, was enough for me to take that leap and put the money down..
I have had the sample for one week and have already become confortable navigating the basics. As a first timer, I have already made a hand full of shitty beats and have been having so much fun. I can already tell, I will get my moneys worth out of this unit. Zero buyers remorse over here!
A friend of mine who has always made beats on a DAW, just recieved his yesterday. I told him... it is more adictive than smoking. If i walk past it, it is hard not turnimg it on..
As an older enthusiast, I have been looking for a creative outlet that doesn't involve being part of a band, or being the grey haired bloke playing music to a room full of first time adults.
The Sample has already filled that void.. I think this product could also be marketed as a mental health therapy tool, to people like myself. Haha
I also have a young daughter (7yrs old) My wife and I pump her full of, what we think, is quality music. She loves Hip Hop and House. She always wants to have a scratch on Dad's old Technics, but the learning curve on traditional beat mixing, buying physical music, and trying not to wreck Dad's gear has limited how much fun we could have.
I am looking to purchase the Rane System One, once I think she is ready for it and we can all go digital together (including Mum)
The Sample has already been fun for us to share. I have learnt enough for the two of us to be able to quickly knock out a beat together. She is beatboxing to me on the way home, asking of we can play on the Sample after school. I am so happy I have something to feed her her pasion for music and creativity, that we can do together. (Seeing she will never see Dad in action, like he was.... a long long looong time ago)
Great job Akai, I love this device!
Early days, but if the Sample stays this popular at my house... I might have to buy another one. (Or Dad might end up needing the MPC Live 3.. haha)
Long review, but I must say... The best investment I have made for myself in decades!
The Customer Service from Jol at Better Music, while the back order was in play, was also second to none. Thanks Jol, thanks Better Music and thanks Akai!!
Another very satisfied customer.

The Akai MPC Sample is an excellent entry-level device for Akai-style sampling. I have been using it daily and the learning curve is quite easy with online tutorials. I have been posting content with it online. Service and communication from Better Music was good however the waiting time for the back-order was surprising uncomfortable in these times of [almost] instant gratification with online purchases. Perhaps a follow-up message with some extra communication regarding specific order and delivery times would reassure future customers who have long wait times. Apart from the long wait very happy and will get a lot of use from this product before possibly upgrading to a Live 3 or similar.

This is a great lil unit to mess around with at a moment's notice when a idea pops in your head
Very easy to use and get things going particularly if you are already familiar with the MPC workflow although even beginners will find intuitive
Overall a great and fun unit!
